Nine Coins

nine coins She holds the same ‘as above so below’ pose of the Magician with skyward hand gloved and holding a falcon. Her earthward hand rests upon a coin, one of nine, hidden in the bounty of her vineyard.
Making his way across her path, a garden snail pushes forward toward an unseen goal, undaunted. A beautiful home is close by, but is seems our lady is taking a moment to herself to enjoy both the hunt and the harvest.
The hooded hunter sits quietly upon her gloved hand – but we see no jesses to contain the bird. The ultimate testament to free will, could it be the falcon only stays because he wants to?  The two are old friends, and perhaps she works magic tho’ she hardly knows it. The toil of the garden and the freedom of her hunting flights are juxtaposed – and in the balance there is a moment of active joy.

Smith-Waite Tarot

Images from The Smith-Waite Tarot Centennial Edition Deck are used in this blog. They feature the artist, Pamela Colman Smith’s, original coloring and lovely back design. The cards are a bit oversized and printed on sturdy cardstock. This deck is one of my personal favorites. =:->AD
